About the artist
Fran Fong has been an artist all her life, and believes that works of creativity are the fabric of everyday life. As a proponent of functional art, she says, “To me, good art emerges from challenges – challenges of time, space, or resources.” A graduate of the California College of the Arts and a married mother of three, the inspiration for her company, Paint the Town, came when she refreshed a set of dining chairs in her home by hand painting them with her original designs. Encouraged by the results, she began painting other items made of wood with designs influenced by her Asian roots and her love of Hawaii’s botanicals. Since 2004, Paint the Town’s hand painted product line has ranged from finely sanded hook racks with non-corrosive hooks, to decorative light switches to trinket boxes that serve as treasure keepers for precious items.
